If there was ever any doubt about West Plains’ intentions this postseason, the Wolves erased it in emphatic fashion Friday night in Seminole. In a game that showcased total domination from start to finish, West Plains dismantled El Paso Irvin 85–0, sending a clear message to the rest of Class 4A: this team is locked in and hungry for a state championship run.
With the win, the Wolves improve to 10–1 and advance to face Lampasas next Friday at 7 p.m. in Snyder. The matchup brings some familiar postseason history—West Plains defeated Lampasas 63–35 in last year’s regional round, and the Badgers are coming off a strong 45–14 win over San Angelo Lake View on Thursday. It’s shaping up to be one of next week’s must-watch playoff battles.
But for now, all eyes are on what West Plains just accomplished.
Irvin, which finishes the season at 5–6, had no answers for the Wolves’ relentless attack. West Plains piled up 323 rushing yards, and the ground game looked unstoppable behind a dominant offensive line and the explosive running of Slade Russell. Russell needed only eight carries to rack up 118 yards and four touchdowns—a video-game-type stat line that perfectly captured the flow of the night.
Quarterback Reid Macon wasn’t asked to do much, but he was flawless when called upon. Macon completed all seven of his passes for 115 yards and three touchdowns, giving the offense a balanced and efficient punch. With every possession, West Plains looked sharper, deeper, and more determined.
Defensively, the Wolves were just as overwhelming, smothering Irvin at every turn and pitching a playoff shutout that only adds to their growing momentum.
