Jamie Haynes launches campaign for Texas House District 86

Jamie Haynes has announced the launch of her campaign for Texas State Representative in House District 86, entering the race with a platform focused on fiscal policy, education priorities, and rural community advocacy. The district covers portions of the Texas Panhandle, a region known for agriculture, ranching, and strong ties to local community identity.

Haynes was born in Austin and raised in Brady, where her family has maintained a ranch since the late nineteenth century. Growing up working cattle, she has described her upbringing as shaped by land stewardship and rural tradition. Her father is a fourth-generation rancher and her mother is a retired pharmacist, and the family continues to reside in McCulloch County.

After graduating from Brady High School, Haynes attended Texas Tech University, where she earned a degree in Management Information Systems. She later completed an MBA at West Texas A&M University. While in college, she met her husband, JT Haynes, and the couple eventually moved to Amarillo, where they established careers and family roots.

Her early professional experience centered on the technology and corporate sector, working as a computer programmer and quality assurance analyst for Maxor Pharmacies and Anderson Merchandisers. In 2007, she shifted into entrepreneurship by opening a photography studio. A few years later, she joined her husband’s rapidly expanding real estate brokerage, Triangle Realty, after acquiring her real estate license. In the brokerage, she took on a central role in marketing, branding, and business development, contributing to the organization’s growth in both residential and land sales across the region.

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, Haynes transitioned into political and policy-oriented activism. She launched an initiative called Texans Wake Up and became involved in several grassroots organizations. Her work included participating in committees related to parental involvement in education, youth literature review efforts, and public school policy advocacy. She has also served as a precinct chair and a county-level delegate in Republican Party conventions. In addition, she has held board and leadership roles in local civic and political organizations, and has been involved with coalitions focused on public health and child welfare concerns.

In December 2024, Haynes accepted an invitation to join the Club for Growth Foundation’s fellowship program, which focuses on training leaders to advocate for limited government and free-market policy frameworks. She has also received recognition from grassroots networks for her activism efforts.

In launching her campaign, Haynes is placing emphasis on several specific priorities. One of the central points of her platform is fiscal oversight. She has expressed concern about the growth of the state budget in recent legislative sessions and argues that state government should restrain spending and return surplus funds to taxpayers more directly.

Another focus of her campaign is rural representation. Haynes contends that policy decisions made in Austin often do not reflect the needs or values of Panhandle communities. Her campaign message suggests a commitment to reducing state-level mandates that impact local governance and to defending agricultural interests, property rights, and land-based industries central to District 86.

Education policy also plays a significant role in her platform. She advocates for prioritizing foundational academic instruction, directing more resources into classrooms, and emphasizing parental involvement. Her campaign messaging also indicates support for strengthening families and ensuring that learning environments reflect the expectations of local communities.

The protection of children in school settings is another highlighted priority, particularly in relation to school library materials and content oversight.

In addition to these core issues, Haynes identifies herself as supportive of pro-life policies, Second Amendment protections, Texas agricultural producers, religious liberty, law enforcement, first responders, and election integrity measures.

As the campaign progresses, voters in District 86 will have the opportunity to compare platforms and weigh the role state representation plays in shaping policy for rural and small-town Texas communities.
