Eagles soar past Ysleta 66-13

If there was ever a reminder that playoff football cares little for records and seedings, the Canyon Eagles delivered it in emphatic fashion Thursday night. Entering the postseason as the No. 4 seed out of District 2-4A Division I, Canyon faced what appeared to be a tall task against previously unbeaten El Paso Ysleta. But once the whistle blew at Denver City, the Eagles made it clear that the postseason is a different season entirely.

Canyon dismantled Ysleta 66-13 in a statement victory that showcased not only their resilience, but also their explosive potential on both sides of the ball. With the win, the Eagles (7-4) advance to the area round, where they’ll take on the winner of Friday’s matchup between Brownwood and Big Spring. Details on the game’s time and location will be announced soon, but one thing is certain: Canyon will enter with momentum that few teams can match.

Quarterback Brox Hacker played the best game of his young career, slicing through the Ysleta (10-1) defense with precision and confidence. Hacker completed 11 of 14 passes for 240 yards and five touchdowns, spreading the ball around but developing undeniable chemistry with standout receiver Bayler Schilling. Schilling hauled in seven receptions for 148 yards and three scores, consistently turning routine plays into game-breaking ones.

But Canyon wasn’t one-dimensional. The Eagles racked up a staggering 608 total yards of offense, with the run game playing just as large a role. Tripp Miller powered the ground attack, rushing for 149 yards on only 14 carries as Canyon controlled the pace from start to finish.

The Eagles didn’t just win—they sent a message: in November, it’s not about where you start. It’s about how far you’re willing to fly.
