Blair Schaffer launches reelection campaign for Potter County Commissioner Precinct 2

Blair Schaffer has formally launched his campaign for reelection as Potter County Commissioner for Precinct 2, emphasizing continued neighborhood revitalization, infrastructure improvements, and community engagement as the guiding priorities of his next term. Schaffer, who has served in the role since his initial election, is positioning his reelection effort as a continuation of work already underway rather than a shift in policy direction.

Schaffer was raised in Amarillo and attended schools throughout the city, including Hamlet Elementary, Horace Mann Jr. High, and Palo Duro High School. His roots in the county extend back more than a century through his family’s history in the area. He later entered public service through firefighting, earning EMT-Intermediate certification and serving with the Amarillo Fire Department. He continues to work as a firefighter, a role he has held for many years.

In addition to his work in emergency services, Schaffer has experience as a business owner. He has described that phase of his career as one where he focused on building teams and developing local solutions to support economic and community growth. His campaign messaging frames this business background as an asset in administrative and budget-related responsibilities at the county level.

During his time in office, Schaffer has taken part in a range of infrastructure and planning initiatives affecting Precinct 2. One of the projects he has supported is the improvement of the SE 3rd underpass, a frequent concern for traffic flow and neighborhood access. He has also served on boards and committees, including the TIRZ 2 board, which concentrates on revitalization and beautification efforts aimed at encouraging growth in targeted neighborhoods. In county operations, Schaffer has taken part in selecting updated software for functions such as human resources, auditing, and purchasing, with the stated goal of increasing efficiency and modernizing internal systems.

Community accessibility has also been a regular theme of Schaffer’s approach as commissioner. He has hosted quarterly town hall meetings as a way to maintain communication with Precinct 2 residents and encourage discussion on ongoing projects and local issues. According to his campaign, this is part of a broader emphasis on transparency, direct engagement, and consistent dialogue with constituents.

Looking ahead, Schaffer is centering his reelection platform on several ongoing priorities. He is calling for continued revitalization within older neighborhoods, aiming to support both safety and long-term property stability. Infrastructure remains a central focus, with roads, underpasses, and public access routes identified as primary needs. He also emphasizes economic growth and community prosperity, which he views as connected to local partnerships, business development opportunities, and maintaining a supportive environment for families.

Schaffer highlights family values and personal relationships as influences on his leadership style. He and his wife, Blanca, reside in the community, and he frequently references shared experiences in Amarillo as shaping his perspective on public service. His campaign describes him as a husband, father, and grandfather who sees community leadership as an extension of the same principles that guide home and family life.

As he enters the 2026 election cycle, Schaffer is presenting his reelection effort as a continuation of his commitment to service, shaped by decades in emergency response and community involvement. The campaign frames his time in office as rooted in practical problem-solving, neighborhood-level investment, and a belief in working collaboratively with residents and local organizations.

Schaffer’s reelection effort will move forward in the coming months, with additional community meetings and public appearances expected as the March 2026 election approaches.
