The Randall County Sheriff’s Office has released new information regarding an ongoing investigation into an off-campus assault involving students from West Plains High School.
According to officials, the incident occurred over the weekend and has drawn significant community attention after videos allegedly showing the assault circulated on social media. The Amarillo Police Department reported receiving hundreds of calls and being tagged in numerous online posts related to the videos.
Law enforcement confirmed that both the Amarillo Police Department and the Randall County Sheriff’s Office are jointly investigating the case. The Sheriff’s Office stated that its Criminal Investigation Division has now referred the matter to Juvenile Probation for charges to be filed.
Canyon Independent School District (Canyon ISD) addressed the situation on Monday, noting that the district was aware of the incident and that “appropriate disciplinary action has been taken.” The district did not provide details on the specific measures or the students involved, citing privacy laws.
Because the case involves minors, officials say no further information, including names or specific charges, will be released at this time.
Authorities are urging the public to avoid sharing or reposting any videos related to the incident while the investigation continues.
