Sandies roll past Coronado in 79-6

Sometimes the scoreboard tells you everything you need to know, and Thursday night at Lowrey Field was one of those times. The Amarillo High Sandies left no doubt, dismantling Lubbock Coronado 79-6 in a statement win that keeps them firmly in the upper tier of the district standings.

The night belonged to one man — Jude Duniven. Simply put, the senior was unstoppable. In just one half of football, Duniven put on a clinic that fans will be talking about for years. He racked up 226 rushing yards and four touchdowns on only eight carries, while also catching two passes for 117 yards, both of which went the distance. That’s six touchdowns — in one half.

By the time the teams jogged to the locker rooms, Amarillo High had already built a 52-0 lead, and the starters could comfortably call it a night. The Sandies totaled 572 yards of offense, mixing explosive plays with efficient execution. Quarterback Jett Lopez was sharp as well, completing a strong first half with 225 yards passing and three touchdowns, showing the balance that makes this Amarillo offense so dangerous.

Coronado, still searching for its first win of the season, didn’t find the end zone until the final minute, long after the game’s outcome was decided.

For Amarillo High (6-2, 3-1), this was the kind of performance that sends a message to the rest of the district — they can dominate on the ground or through the air, and when Duniven is in full stride, good luck trying to stop them.

It wasn’t just a win. It was a statement — and the numbers, indeed, didn’t lie one bit.
