Residents across Canyon and Amarillo have several community and public safety developments to note this week, ranging from city government business to ongoing criminal investigations and community blood donation efforts. Here's a look at some of the latest news from around the area.

Canyon Commission to Consider July 4 Plans, Fee Changes

The Canyon City Commission will meet Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at 301 16th Street. Commissioners are scheduled to consider a resolution granting the Canyon Chamber of Commerce exclusive management rights over the Downtown Square, Paul Lindsey Park and other public areas during the annual Fourth of July Celebration.

The agenda also includes discussion of parking and vehicle restrictions related to the July 4 parade, as well as an ordinance amending the city's master schedule of charges and fees. Commissioners will formally recognize the Texas Panhandle Youth Sports Foundation for a recent donation and hear public comments during the meeting.

APD Investigating Altercation-Related Traffic Incident

The Amarillo Police Department is investigating a major traffic incident that occurred early Sunday morning in the 2400 block of Amarillo Boulevard East.

According to police, officers responding to the scene learned an altercation had taken place in a parking lot before a male was struck by a red Dodge Charger. Two men were transported to local hospitals with injuries, and their conditions have not been released. The case remains under active investigation by the department's Violent Crimes Unit.

Motorcyclist Dies Following South Amarillo Crash

A 39-year-old Amarillo man has died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash Saturday evening in the 4100 block of South Washington Street.

Investigators said William Bartlett was traveling southbound when a northbound vehicle turned onto Southwest 40th Avenue. While attempting to avoid a collision, Bartlett lost control of his motorcycle, laid it down and struck an unrelated vehicle waiting in a turn lane. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and died Sunday. The driver of the turning vehicle was not injured. The Amarillo Police Department's Traffic Investigation Unit continues to investigate the crash.

Road Rage Incident Leads to Aggravated Assault Arrest

A 33-year-old Amarillo man was arrested Friday following an alleged road rage incident that escalated into an aggravated assault.

Police said the confrontation began around 1:15 p.m. in a shopping center parking lot near 34th Avenue and Coulter Street, where two drivers became involved in a physical altercation. Investigators allege that as the victim returned to his vehicle, the suspect drove into him, pinning him between two vehicles. The suspect, identified as Keegan James Cassidy, later drove to the Amarillo Police Department, where he was arrested. Cassidy was booked into the Randall County Detention Center on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Blood Donors Eligible for Prizes During June Campaign

Coffee Memorial Blood Center is encouraging residents to roll up their sleeves this month as part of a nationwide celebration marking America's 250th anniversary.

Individuals who successfully donate blood through June 30 will receive a limited-edition "Red, White, & True" T-shirt and a complimentary theme park ticket. Donors giving blood between June 1 and June 8 will also be entered into a drawing for a Fourth of July getaway for four to Washington, D.C., including airfare, lodging, meals and access to anniversary events. Additionally, one donor each day during the promotion will receive a $250 voucher to a local fireworks retailer. Eligible donors must meet donation requirements, and appointments can be scheduled online through the Our Blood Institute.
