The #6-ranked West Texas A&M Lady Buffs closed out the regular season in dominant fashion, stretching their winning streak to 12 games with a Senior Day doubleheader sweep over the UT Permian Basin Falcons at Schaeffer Park. The two victories not only underscored their regular-season superiority but also secured the program’s sixth Lone Star Conference regular season title.
With postseason stakes already locked in, the Lady Buffs played with authority from the opening pitch and never let up across both games.
In the opener, WT delivered a crushing 17-0 win in five innings, setting the tone early with timely hitting and relentless pressure on the bases. The offense struck quickly in the first inning and erupted in the second, stacking extra-base hits and capitalizing on defensive gaps. By the middle innings, the game had turned into a showcase of depth, as multiple players contributed RBI hits and aggressive baserunning fueled a massive scoring surge. The fourth inning alone saw a flurry of production that pushed the margin well out of reach and triggered the run-rule finish.
The most historic storyline, however, came in the circle. WT’s pitching staff combined to complete a perfect game, marking just the fifth in program history and the third combined effort. The trio of arms worked in seamless rotation, keeping the Falcons off balance and off the bases entirely while striking out multiple hitters along the way. The performance added another milestone to a season already filled with dominance.
The nightcap followed a similar script, though it was ignited even earlier by explosive power at the plate. WT opened with a two-run home run and quickly expanded the lead with additional long balls that showcased the team’s depth of power hitting. By the third inning, the Lady Buffs had built an 11-0 advantage, again forcing an early end to the contest via the run rule.
Pitching remained spotless in game two as well, with another shutout performance that extended WT’s defensive excellence across the entire day.
With the sweep complete, West Texas A&M now turns its attention to postseason play as host of the upcoming Lone Star Conference Softball Championship, beginning next week at Schaeffer Park. Riding a 12-game winning streak, a conference title, and back-to-back dominant shutouts, the Lady Buffs enter the tournament as one of the most formidable teams in the region.
