The Amarillo Sod Poodles evened their record at 16–16 with a dramatic 9–7 victory over the Wichita Wind Surge on Saturday night at HODGETOWN, completing a stunning comeback after falling behind by six runs early. The win marked Amarillo’s largest rally of the season and was fueled by a standout performance from catcher Gavin Logan.
Wichita quickly seized control in the opening inning, taking advantage of defensive miscues and timely hitting. Amarillo starter Avery Short struggled with command and efficiency, as a combination of an error and several well-placed singles allowed the Wind Surge to plate multiple runs. After recording just two outs, Short was lifted following a high pitch count, and Wichita continued to build momentum with a five-run first inning.
The Wind Surge extended their advantage to 6–0 in the second inning, but Amarillo began to chip away immediately. Angel Ortiz sparked the offense with a two-run single that helped cut into the deficit and shift momentum back toward the home side.
The comeback gained traction in the third inning when Manuel Peña responded to his earlier defensive struggles by launching a solo home run. In the fourth, Logan followed with a leadoff home run of his own, trimming the gap further and energizing the crowd.
Wichita briefly restored its cushion, but Logan struck again in the sixth with his second home run of the night, pulling Amarillo within one. The Sod Poodles tied the game later in the inning after aggressive baserunning and a costly passed ball allowed a run to score.
Both bullpens stabilized the game through regulation, sending it into extra innings. Amarillo’s relief corps delivered a scoreless top of the tenth, setting up Logan once more in a high-pressure situation. He delivered decisively, driving a pitch over the left-field fence for a walk-off home run, securing a dramatic finish and completing the comeback win for Amarillo.
