Pampa names Brian Massey interim police chief

The City of Pampa announced Tuesday that Brian Massey has been named Interim Chief of Police. The appointment follows the retirement of longtime Police Chief Lance Richburg, effective April 17, 2026.

Massey has served with the Pampa Police Department since 2013. He most recently held the role of Assistant Chief and has built extensive experience in leadership and daily operations. City officials said he brings a strong record of public safety service and familiarity with department needs.

Richburg served the City of Pampa beginning in 2015 and led the department through multiple years of operations and community policing efforts. His retirement marks the end of more than a decade in law enforcement service to the city.

During the interim period, Massey will oversee department operations while the city begins the process of selecting a permanent police chief. Officials said maintaining continuity in leadership is a priority as the transition moves forward.

The City of Pampa expressed confidence in Massey’s ability to guide the department during the transition period and maintain public safety services. Leaders emphasized that the selection process for a permanent chief will include a thorough review of candidates and qualifications in the coming months ahead for the community.
