Search continues for missing Lubbock couple

Local, state, and neighboring-state authorities continued their search Monday for a Lubbock couple who disappeared after leaving a Thanksgiving gathering in the Texas Panhandle. Concern is growing as multiple agencies—including Texas and New Mexico law enforcement—work to trace the couple’s movements and bring them home safely.

Last Known Sightings

Charles “Gary” Lightfoot, 82, and Linda Eppers Lightfoot, 81, were last seen on the afternoon of November 27, leaving the city of Panhandle after visiting family for the holiday. According to the Carson County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Department of Public Safety, they never made it back to their residence in Lubbock.

A Silver Alert was issued for the couple shortly after they were reported missing.

Authorities believe the couple were traveling in their silver 2024 Toyota Camry, bearing Texas license plate TWN0925.

Timeline of Vehicle Sightings

The timeline of their travel paints a worrying picture:

Nov. 27, ~7 p.m. — Their vehicle was spotted in Groom, Texas, a small community east of Amarillo along I-40.

Nov. 28 (Friday) — The vehicle was seen again in Santa Rosa, New Mexico, roughly 115 miles west of the Texas state line.

While these sightings give law enforcement some direction, authorities say their destination and route beyond Santa Rosa remain completely unknown.

What the Couple Were Last Seen Wearing

Gary Lightfoot: gray sweater, black sweatpants

Linda Lightfoot: black-and-white blouse, bulky silver necklace, dark pants

These details may help anyone who may have spotted the couple or interacted with them during or after their last confirmed whereabouts.

Growing Concern for Health and Safety

Family members and law enforcement stress that the couple did not have a cell phone or any other traceable device with them. This makes locating them significantly more difficult.

Officials also noted that Gary Lightfoot is oxygen-dependent, which adds urgency and increases concern regarding the couple’s health and safety.

The Carson County Sheriff’s Office stated Monday that they believe the circumstances present a credible threat to both individuals’ well-being.

How the Public Can Help

As the search continues across wide stretches of Texas and New Mexico, authorities are urging the public to remain alert. Anyone who believes they may have seen the Lightfoots or their vehicle is encouraged to contact law enforcement immediately.

Or call 911 with urgent or time-sensitive information

Even a small detail—such as a possible sighting at a gas station, convenience store, or highway rest stop—could help narrow down the search area and bring the couple home safely.
