Original Post: The Amarillo Police Department is investigating a deadly shooting that occurred early Monday morning in the 2600 block of Dumas Drive, leaving a 16-year-old male dead at the scene. According to information released by police, patrol officers were already in the area shortly after midnight when the incident unfolded.
At approximately 12:05 a.m., officers reported hearing multiple gunshots. They immediately began canvassing the surrounding area and soon located a juvenile male in the Hamlet Shopping Center parking lot who had been struck by gunfire. Despite officers’ efforts to render aid, the victim was pronounced deceased on-site.
Police have confirmed that the victim was 16 years old, but due to his age, authorities stated that no identifying information will be released. The Amarillo Police Department Homicide Unit has taken over the investigation, which remains active and ongoing.
At this stage in the case, investigators say no suspect information is available for public release, and it remains unclear what led to the shooting or whether the victim had any interaction with the suspect or suspects beforehand.
Detectives are now urging the public’s help in gathering potential evidence. According to authorities, they are specifically asking for any video recordings—including surveillance footage, doorbell camera recordings, dash camera video, or cell phone footage—from the area during the time of the incident. Police stated that residents and businesses can submit digital evidence using the APD digital evidence submission link or QR code provided through official department channels.
As the investigation continues, the Amarillo Police Department is expected to release additional information if and when it becomes available. Anyone with relevant footage or information is encouraged to come forward to assist detectives in determining what occurred during the early morning hours on Dumas Drive.
