District action brought plenty of drama — and a few explosive scoring nights — as teams across 4-4A and 3-5A battled for early positioning heading into the holiday break.
Randall Closes Strong to Hold Off Borger
The Randall Lady Raiders overcame a slow first half and a gritty Borger effort, pulling out a 47-37 win in a District 4-4A clash Friday afternoon.
Borger led 18-17 at halftime, but Randall clawed ahead 28-27 after three quarters and poured it on late, outscoring the Lady Bulldogs 19-10 in the fourth to seal the victory.
Alaina Garcia led Randall with 14 points. Kennah Thomas and Carmella Guerrero each added nine, and freshman Chloe Brown contributed eight. Randall improves to 7-11 overall and 2-0 in district play.
Canyon Rolls Past Hereford, Stays Unbeaten in District
Canyon kept its early-season momentum rolling with a decisive 60-33 win over Hereford on Friday evening.
The Lady Eagles dominated the first half, jumping ahead 15-6 after one and stretching the margin to 32-9 by halftime. Kambrie Grasor delivered a game-high 22 points, while Addison Cunningham chipped in 12.
Canyon moves to 13-1 overall and 2-0 in District 4-4A, continuing to look like one of the region’s toughest squads.
West Plains Handles Pampa to Stay Perfect in 4-4A Play
West Plains matched Canyon and Randall atop the district standings with a 46-34 victory over Pampa on Friday night.
The Lady Wolves, now 7-9 overall but a strong 2-0 in district, rode a standout game from Haven Wheeler, who poured in 17 points to lead all scorers.
District 3-5A Girls
Soukup Erupts for 40 as Amarillo High Dominates Lubbock High
Amarillo High star Kam Soukup delivered one of the season’s most impressive performances, erupting for a career-high 40 points in a 92-35 dismantling of Lubbock High.
Soukup hit four threes and added four “hoop and harm” plays in a nearly flawless night. Ella Brown added 11 as the Lady Sandies climbed to 16-3 overall and 5-0 in district.
Monterey Uses Massive Second Quarter to Knock Off Tascosa
In one of the most anticipated district matchups of the week, Lubbock Monterey roared past Tascosa 71-54 thanks to a dominant second quarter.
Tascosa led 18-12 after one, but Monterey flipped the game with a 12-0 run that sparked a 21-3 quarter. From there, the Lady Plainsmen controlled the pace and never looked back.
Ambrosia Cole paced Monterey with 28 points on 8-of-19 shooting, while Ari Johnson was nearly as good, scoring 25 on an efficient 11-of-18. Tascosa’s Kenzee Dickson led the Lady Rebels with 19.
Monterey improves to 14-5 overall and 4-1 in district, while Tascosa drops to 15-2, 3-1 after its first district setback.
District 3-5A Boys
Palo Duro Stays Perfect, Cruises Past Plainview
The Palo Duro Dons protected home court with an 84-58 rout of Plainview on Friday.
Cuda Clayton continued his breakout season, dropping 29 points to pace the Dons. Cheston Mitchell Jr. added 15, and DeJuan Flenory finished with 11 as Palo Duro improved to 10-3 overall and 2-0 in district.
Amarillo High Cruises Past Lubbock High
Amarillo High remained steady in district action, rolling to a 57-30 win over Lubbock High at home.
