After the bitter taste of last week’s blowout loss to archrival Amarillo High, the Tascosa Rebels walked back into Dick Bivins Stadium on Friday determined to rewrite the script. What followed was four quarters of cathartic, full-throttle football—at Parkland’s expense. The Rebels unleashed a record-breaking offensive onslaught and a smothering defense to steamroll the El Paso Parkland Matadors 84–13 in their Class 5A Division I bi-district playoff matchup.
If the goal was to prove that last week’s 63–21 defeat was an aberration, mission accomplished. Tascosa didn’t just rebound—they detonated.
From the first snap, the Rebels (7–4) looked like a team intent on erasing every lingering doubt about their postseason readiness. Their patented flexbone offense tore through Parkland’s front with ruthless efficiency, piling up an astounding 595 rushing yards and averaging an eye-popping 18 yards per carry. They didn’t punt once. By halftime, the scoreboard read 63–6, good for a new school record for first-half points—and the outcome was already long decided.
Tendrick Sargent opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game with a 9-yard touchdown run, the shortest of Tascosa’s five first-quarter scores. The fireworks only grew from there. Quarterback Coltyn Fulton, in his lone pass attempt of the night, connected with Reese Cabe for a 51-yard strike. Fulton exited after three series due to illness, but the Rebels hardly missed a beat.
What followed was a blur of explosive plays: a 77-yard scoring sprint from Deandre Sanders, a 68-yard burst from Traeson Elliott, and a 45-yard touchdown pass from backup quarterback Brayden Lineman to Sanders. Elliott led the ground attack with 151 yards on just six touches, but in truth, the entire backfield feasted. Six different Rebels surpassed 60 rushing yards, a testament to the domination happening in the trenches.
Even the limited passing game was flawless—literally. Tascosa completed all three of its passes, all for touchdowns. Lineman added two scoring throws of his own and later dashed 41 yards for a third-quarter touchdown.
Parkland (3–8) found one moment of joy on a 67-yard touchdown strike from Jesse Molina to Jordan Reese late in the first quarter, but the Matadors were otherwise stifled. Tascosa’s defense, overshadowed only by the offense’s pyrotechnics, capped the first half with the night’s most electric highlight. As Parkland threatened deep in Rebel territory, Jayden Sprague jarred the ball loose from Molina on a sack. Senior defensive lineman Tye’cari Anthony scooped it up and rumbled 73 yards for a touchdown, igniting the stadium and pushing the halftime margin to 63–6. A celebration flag followed, but by then it hardly mattered.
With the emphatic win, Tascosa extends its streak to 11 straight bi-district victories, a run dating back to 2014. But the challenge now becomes steeper. Awaiting the Rebels in next week’s area round is perennial powerhouse Aledo—the same team that ended Tascosa’s season in last year’s regional round. The rematch is tentatively set for Friday in Big Spring.
