Fermi America signs two major nuclear agreements

Fermi America has announced two major nuclear agreements with South Korean companies Doosan Enerbility and Hyundai Engineering & Construction (Hyundai E&C), advancing the company’s role in developing new nuclear power projects in the United States. The announcements come ahead of President Donald Trump’s planned visit to South Korea.

According to company officials, Fermi America and Doosan Enerbility have agreed to begin forging production of critical long-lead-time nuclear components, including reactor pressure vessels and steam generators. The agreement is intended to secure production slots and materials for future Westinghouse AP1000 reactor projects. Officials said the deal strengthens Fermi’s position in the supply chain as the company prepares for new nuclear construction.

Fermi America’s first combined operating license application was accepted for review by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) in September, marking a milestone for the company as it seeks to move forward with large-scale nuclear power development.

The company also signed a Front End Engineering Design (FEED) contract with Hyundai E&C to begin engineering work on four AP1000 reactors as part of “Project Matador,” a proposed multi-reactor initiative. This follows earlier framework agreements between the companies, including a Memorandum of Understanding with Doosan on large-scale and small modular reactor technologies, and a Strategic Partnership Agreement with Hyundai E&C outlining long-term cooperation.

“Doosan’s commitment to putting Fermi in the front of the nuclear power plant component line alongside Hyundai E&C’s FEED award is where vision turns into execution,” said Mesut Uzman, CEO of Fermi Nuclear. “Between their unmatched global record and Fermi’s commitment to action, Project Matador is setting the pace for how advanced nuclear power will be built — efficiently, affordably, safely, and at scale.”

A full engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) agreement for the project is expected to be finalized in early 2026, according to officials.

“Working with our allies, who have successfully constructed multiple large-scale nuclear projects on time and on budget across the globe, is exactly the kind of expertise required for America to win this race,” said Toby Neugebauer, Co-founder & CEO of Fermi America. “Doosan Enerbility and Hyundai E&C have been waiting for an American company to stop power pointing about nuclear and start building it. Their firm commitment to Fermi America positions us for action, leveraging their track record of success to build clean, new nuclear power at the velocity and scale the President demands and the U.S. requires.”

The agreements mark another step in what Fermi America describes as its broader strategy to accelerate nuclear power development in the United States through partnerships with established global nuclear engineering and manufacturing firms.
