Amarillo police investigating deadly RV fire near NW 5th and Lamar

In the early morning hours of Monday, October 27, emergency crews responded to a deadly fire that destroyed an RV trailer near NW 5th and Lamar. The call came in around 4:53 a.m., when witnesses reported seeing smoke and someone walking away from the trailer moments before flames erupted.

When officers arrived on scene, the trailer was already fully engulfed in flames. Police immediately began securing the area and evacuating nearby homes as a precaution while firefighters worked to contain the blaze. The fire was eventually extinguished, but once crews entered the remains of the trailer, they discovered a deceased individual inside.

The victim’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin. Investigators from the Fire Marshal’s Office, Homicide Division, and Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) units were called to the scene to determine the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the death.

Witness accounts are playing a key role in the investigation. Several residents told officers they saw an unidentified person walking away from the trailer just before smoke became visible. Authorities have not confirmed whether that individual is connected to the fire but are asking anyone with additional information or security footage from the area to come forward.

As of Monday morning, the intersection of NW 5th and Lamar remained blocked off while investigators collected evidence and examined the scene. Officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and that no further details are being released at this time.

Residents are urged to remain cautious and report any suspicious activity. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the local police department or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
