International Aerospace Coatings moves closer to expansion in Amarillo

International Aerospace Coatings (IAC), a long-standing employer in the Amarillo region, is one step closer to expanding its operations at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport. The proposed project would include the construction of a new aircraft hangar, creating significant economic and employment opportunities for the area.

The Amarillo Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) has formally entered into a location incentive agreement with IAC as part of its efforts to support the company’s growth. Under this agreement, AEDC will provide $10,000 for each job the company creates over the next five years. If projections hold, more than 70 new positions could be added during that time—bringing in over $700,000 in potential incentives.

“This company has been in Amarillo for a very long time and is a great employer,” said Doug Nelson, interim president and CEO of AEDC. “This is an expansion of their workforce and their footprint.”

The new hangar, still pending final city approval, would expand IAC’s capabilities in aircraft painting and maintenance—a core part of the company’s global operations. The move signals confidence in Amarillo as a long-term base of operations, and AEDC’s incentive package reflects the city’s desire to retain and attract high-quality employers.

The final decision now rests with the Amarillo City Council, which is set to discuss the project during its meeting on July 22. In addition to evaluating the hangar construction plan, the council will also consider a tax agreement that could provide further support to IAC.

If approved, the project could mark one of the more notable industrial expansions in the area this year, contributing to both Amarillo’s economic growth and the strength of its aviation sector.

The public will have an opportunity to weigh in during the council meeting, and city officials are expected to balance the economic benefits of job creation with any concerns about land use or public funding.
