Amarillo Police Officer Fired After Citizen Complaint

The Amarillo Police Department announced Wednesday that Officer Christian Eder was terminated following an investigation into a citizen complaint alleging “inappropriate conduct.” APD said investigators determined Eder had improperly used department resources, resulting in his termination for violating policy. “Due to improper use of the department resources, a criminal investigation was opened,” APD said. The case was turned over to the Potter County Attorney’s Office, which has jurisdiction over the alleged offense. Police did not release additional details but said more information will be provided as the investigation continues.

Erick Bohannon Named Amarillo Assistant Police Chief

A longtime Amarillo police officer has been promoted to one of the department’s top leadership positions. Capt. Erick Bohannon was named assistant chief of police during a ceremony Wednesday afternoon at the Amarillo Civic Center Complex. Bohannon has served with APD since 1993, holding numerous positions during his more than three decades with the department, including Patrol Division Commander since 2022. Corporals Kaleb McCarrell, Jonathan Crum and Ricky Taylor were also promoted to sergeant. Haley McGee was named Police Business Services Manager.

Canyon Courthouse Lighting Campaign Reaches $70,000 Goal

Canyon Main Street has reached its $70,000 fundraising goal to install permanent, color-changing architectural lighting around the Randall County Courthouse. Dozens of businesses and community members contributed to the campaign, which organizers say will enhance the courthouse as a landmark while honoring the legacy of Gwen, a community supporter whose “passion, vision, and love for our community inspired so many.” “We can’t wait to see the courthouse illuminated and shining as a landmark for residents and visitors to enjoy for years to come,” Canyon Main Street said. Organizers are now finalizing plans with contractors, with installation expected soon.

Street Work Underway in Downtown Amarillo and the Vineyards

City crews are continuing street improvement projects in downtown Amarillo and the Vineyards. Mill-and-overlay work is underway on North Pierce Street from North Third Avenue to North 11th Avenue, while cape sealing is taking place on South Buchanan Street from North Fillmore Street to South Pierce Street. Beginning Thursday, various lane closures are also planned in the Vineyards as crews perform microsurfacing work. Drivers should watch for construction crews and changing traffic patterns in the affected areas.
