The Amarillo Police Department has announced the arrest of a third suspect in connection to a Memorial Day weekend shooting that resulted in the death of 45-year-old Jeremy Ray.
According to APD, officers responded at approximately 12:45 a.m. on May 25 to a reported shooting at 3906 South Tyler Street. When officers arrived, they located Ray suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported for medical treatment but later died from his injuries on May 29.
Investigators initially identified 18-year-old Jaylyn Andrew Johnson and 43-year-old Meghan Dawn Kern as suspects in the case. Both were arrested and charged with murder through the Randall County District Attorney’s Office. Kern was already being held at the Potter County Detention Center on unrelated charges when the warrant was issued, while Johnson was arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail.
Following additional investigation by APD’s homicide unit, detectives identified a third suspect, 18-year-old Jontrell Graves. Police said Graves was arrested on unrelated charges and brought to the Amarillo Police Department for questioning.
According to officials, information obtained during the investigation led detectives to locate a firearm connected to the homicide case. The Randall County District Attorney subsequently issued a murder warrant for Graves.
Graves was booked into the Randall County Detention Center on June 20, 2026, on the murder charge.
