Student arrested after threats prompt lockdown at Tascosa High School

A lockdown at Tascosa High School on Tuesday afternoon was lifted after authorities determined two reported threats were not credible, according to the Amarillo Independent School District.

School officials said information regarding two possible threats surfaced during the lunch period, prompting administrators to place the campus into an immediate lockdown as a precautionary measure.

Law enforcement agencies, including the Amarillo Police Department, AISD police, and the Texas Department of Public Safety, responded to investigate the situation.

During the investigation, one student was arrested for allegedly making verbal threats connected to the incident. Authorities reported that no weapons were involved.

Officials also said the second reported threat is believed to be connected to a nationwide “swatting” hoax. Swatting incidents involve false emergency reports intended to trigger large law enforcement responses to schools, homes, or businesses.

After officers completed their investigation and secured the campus, the lockdown was lifted and normal school activities resumed Tuesday afternoon.

The incident remains under investigation.
