Senior Day in Lubbock turned into a statement performance as NiJaree Canady delivered a flawless masterpiece in the circle, guiding the Texas Tech Red Raiders softball to an 8-0, five-inning run-rule win over Baylor Bears softball.
Canady capped the regular season in historic fashion with her first career perfect game, needing just 63 pitches to retire every batter she faced. She struck out nine and consistently kept Baylor off balance, mixing speeds and locations that generated swing-and-miss contact all afternoon. Even though Baylor collected a handful of hits in the series, none came in this outing as Canady improved to 21-4 and lowered her season ERA to 1.30. It also marked the sixth perfect game in program history, underscoring her place among the program’s elite pitching performances.
The offense made sure the tone was set early. Jasmyn Burns opened the floodgates in the first inning, turning a bases-loaded opportunity into a grand slam that immediately put Texas Tech in control. Burns continued her standout season, pushing her totals to 15 home runs and 50 RBIs. Lauren Allred added more damage with a two-run home run, finishing 2-for-3 as part of another balanced offensive attack.
Support around the lineup was just as strong. Kaitlyn Terry and Hailey Toney each went 2-for-3, with Toney adding two doubles and driving in runs. Mihyia Davis, Mia Williams, and Taylor Pannell all contributed hits, with Pannell extending her on-base streak to 14 games.
Head coach Gerry Glasco continued his dominant conference track record as Texas Tech set a new program mark with 21 Big 12 wins and became the first team nationally to reach 50 victories this season.
