The Ceta Canyon Camp and Retreat Center has officially received licensing from the State of Texas under the Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act, marking a major milestone for the longtime Panhandle ministry and retreat destination. The certification places Ceta Canyon among only nine camps statewide that have successfully met the law’s extensive safety and operational standards.
The Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act was created to strengthen protections for campers and staff through stricter emergency preparedness and communication requirements. To earn approval, camps must comply with regulations involving floodplain restrictions, emergency alert systems, detailed emergency response planning, staff training exercises, redundant communication systems, parental notification procedures, and additional operational safeguards.
Ceta Canyon officials said the process required extensive effort, investment, and perseverance. The camp implemented new systems, upgraded infrastructure, expanded emergency planning measures, and strengthened communication capabilities throughout the property. Leaders emphasized that the licensing process represented far more than meeting state requirements, describing it as a commitment to protecting campers, staff, and families who place their trust in the organization each year.
Camp officials also recognized the deeper significance behind the legislation, noting that the law emerged from tragic loss and the advocacy efforts of families determined to improve camp safety standards across Texas. Ceta Canyon stated that every protocol, system improvement, and safety investment was made with the goal of honoring those affected while helping prevent future tragedies.
The organization expressed gratitude to campers and their families for their patience and continued support during the transition process. Officials also thanked directors, church partners, sponsors, and community supporters whose encouragement and financial assistance helped make the improvements possible.
Ceta Canyon leaders said the achievement reflects an ongoing commitment to safety, excellence, and responsible stewardship. While celebrating the accomplishment, officials added that the camp intends to continue improving operations and maintaining high standards for future generations of campers and retreat guests.
