Progress continues on the new sports complex being developed by Kids Inc., more than six months after the project officially broke ground. Construction crews are currently working on completing the backstops for the baseball and softball fields, marking another visible milestone in the large-scale development.
Once the backstops are finished, attention will shift to installing turf on both the diamond fields and the football fields. That phase of construction is expected to begin within the next 45 days, signaling a transition from structural work to surface completion.
According to Jimmy Lackey, the project is progressing faster than originally planned. “We didn’t have much of a winter, so what projected to be finishing April 27 of next year has already backed up to March 9 of next year. So, they’ve gained a month and a half construction time with the lack of winter and the days they built in for that. Things are moving along pretty well,” said Lackey.
The favorable weather conditions have played a significant role in accelerating the timeline, allowing crews to maintain steady momentum through months that might otherwise have caused delays.
Financially, the organization has made substantial progress as well. Kids Inc. has raised more than $30 million toward the development of the Rockrose Sports Complex. However, the project is not fully funded yet, with an additional $8 million to $10 million still needed to cover remaining costs.
