Fire in East Amarillo
The Amarillo Fire Department responded Saturday at 1:53 p.m. to a vegetation fire on vacant land in the 6000 block of I-40 East. The blaze, which involved approximately 20 acres and burning debris including tires, was brought under control within an hour. One firefighter sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from a local hospital. No civilians were injured or evacuated. Authorities believe the fire started accidentally when a bystander reportedly used a grinder on a trailer. Estimated losses are minimal.
Two Killed in South Bell Motorcycle Crash
A fatal accident occurred Friday evening in the 5400 block of South Bell. Amarillo Police report that at 6:04 p.m., a pickup truck turning east on 54th Street collided with a northbound motorcycle. Motorcycle driver 57-year-old Steven Tobias Guzman was pronounced dead at the scene, while passenger 50-year-old Debbie Michelle Guzman later died at a local hospital. The pickup’s driver and passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Squad continues to investigate the incident.
