Amarillo Seeks Local Artists for New Park Fitness Court

The City of Amarillo Parks and Recreation Department is inviting local artists to help shape a new public space with creative input. The initiative ties art and fitness together, aiming to bring community identity into a new recreational feature.

The department is partnering with the National Fitness Campaign to install a Fitness Court at John Ward Memorial Park. Officials are seeking digital artwork to be displayed on the court’s multipurpose training wall. The city will cover printing and installation costs, and selected artists will be recognized at a public ribbon-cutting later this summer. Applicants must be Amarillo residents and at least 14 years old.

Canyon Launches Fundraising Effort to Light Historic Courthouse

A new effort in Canyon aims to bring renewed attention to one of its most iconic landmarks. Community leaders hope the project will enhance downtown visibility and restore a sense of nighttime presence.

Canyon Main Street is working to raise $70,000 through its “Illuminate Canyon” campaign to light the Randall County Courthouse, which has remained dark after sunset. Built in 1909, the courthouse would be outfitted with color-changing landscape lighting designed to highlight its architecture and make it a focal point again. Donations are currently being accepted online.

Canyon City Commission to Consider Permit and Funding Agreements

City leaders in Canyon are preparing for a meeting that includes several development and funding decisions. The agenda features both business approvals and opportunities for public input.

The Canyon City Commission will meet Tuesday at City Hall to hold a public hearing on a proposed indoor amusement business—an inflatable playroom—at 1615 4th Avenue. Commissioners will also review a funding agreement supporting the annual Independence Day celebration, including a fireworks display, and consider amendments tied to Pondaseta Brewing Company. Public comments will be accepted during the session.

Amarillo ISD Board to Review Budget and Strategic Plans

Education leaders in Amarillo are set to meet to discuss key financial and operational priorities. The session will focus on planning for the upcoming school year and long-term district goals.

The Amarillo Independent School District Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting Monday evening at the Rod Schroder Education Support Center. Trustees are expected to review the proposed employee compensation plan and the 2026–2027 district budget, along with updates to the strategic plan and performance scorecard. The meeting will also include public comments and potential closed-door discussions on legal, personnel, and security matters.
