Former Pampa Police Chief Lance Richburg arrested for DWI in Coleman County


Former Pampa Police Chief Lance Richburg, 55, was arrested Sunday on a charge of driving while intoxicated, according to a Coleman County Jail inmate listing. Authorities report that Richburg was booked on April 19, with bond set at $5,000. Additional details surrounding the arrest have not yet been released.

Richburg’s arrest comes just days after his retirement from the Pampa Police Department. City officials confirmed he announced his intention to retire on April 13, with his final day on duty falling on Friday, April 17. Assistant City Manager Dustin Miller verified the timeline of his departure.

Richburg served as police chief from October 2015 until April 2026 and brought more than three decades of law enforcement experience to the role, having begun his career in 1993. Following his departure, Assistant Police Chief Brian Massey was appointed interim chief, effective at midnight on April 17.

The arrest took place in Coleman County, located south of Abilene. Officials have not disclosed further information about the circumstances leading to the charge as the case remains under review.
