Thursday evening, Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport was briefly placed on lockdown following a bomb threat reported around 7:04 p.m. An anonymous caller claimed to have dropped off an individual carrying a backpack that might contain an explosive device.
In response, the airport halted all departures and arrivals, diverting incoming flights to other locations. One aircraft was held at the gate while a thorough investigation was conducted. Amarillo Airport Police, together with Amarillo Police Department officers and a bomb detection K9, carried out a detailed sweep of the terminal and surrounding areas.
After a careful search, no explosives or suspicious devices were discovered, allowing the airport to reopen and resume normal operations. Officials emphasized that the safety of passengers and staff remained the top priority throughout the incident.
The investigation into the threat is still ongoing as police work to identify the caller and determine the full circumstances behind the report. Passengers were advised to check with their airlines for updated flight information following the disruption. Despite the scare, airport operations have returned to normal, and officials continue monitoring the situation to ensure security remains tight.
