Amarillo police investigate fatal two-vehicle crash at Western and Mesa


On Thursday, Amarillo police officers responded to a major two-vehicle crash at Western and Mesa in Amarillo. Upon arrival, they located a blue Nissan Rogue with extensive front-end damage. The driver of that vehicle had fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.

A blue Subaru Impreza also sustained extensive driver-side damage and was carrying four occupants. The driver, Gabriel Lawrence Ayers, 26, and front passenger, Kaitlyn Wallace, 26, died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Two back seat passengers were transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Next of kin has been notified.

The Amarillo Police Department Traffic Investigation Squad continues to investigate the crash.

Authorities confirmed the incident involved two vehicles and resulted in multiple fatalities and serious injuries. The roadway was impacted as investigators documented the scene and collected evidence for reconstruction. Officials are continuing to review physical evidence and available information as part of the ongoing inquiry.
