A high-speed police pursuit Friday night ended in a crash at the intersection of Hollywood Road and the northbound I-27 service road after law enforcement deployed tire spikes to stop a fleeing driver.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, Canyon police officers initially attempted to stop Jasmine Sanchez, 29, of Amarillo for a traffic violation. Sanchez did not comply and instead fled the scene, prompting a pursuit that involved multiple law enforcement agencies. Authorities reported that Sanchez drove northbound on Interstate 27 at speeds reaching up to 115 miles per hour, creating a dangerous situation for other motorists on the roadway.
As the pursuit continued, DPS coordinated with assisting agencies to bring the chase to a safe end. Tire spikes were deployed near McCormick Road and successfully slowed the suspect’s vehicle. Shortly afterward, Sanchez exited the interstate at Hollywood Road. While entering the intersection, her vehicle was struck on the side by another car, resulting in a T-bone collision.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, and minor injuries were reported. Both drivers were evaluated at the scene and transported for medical care as a precaution. No life-threatening injuries were reported.
Once Sanchez is released from medical care, authorities say she will face charges of driving while intoxicated and evading arrest. Officials noted that this was the first high-speed pursuit of the year in the area, underscoring the risks such incidents pose to the public and to officers involved.
DPS confirmed that the response involved cooperation from multiple agencies, including the Randall County Sheriff’s Office, Potter County Sheriff’s Office, Canyon Police Department, and Amarillo Police Department. Law enforcement officials emphasized that coordinated efforts and the use of spike strips were critical in bringing the pursuit to an end and preventing more serious injuries or damage as the vehicle traveled at extreme speeds along the interstate.
