Hamilton County Sheriff Jason Bradley Boulton has been arrested and booked into the Coryell County Jail after a grand jury returned seven indictments alleging a series of misdemeanor and felony offenses connected to his conduct in office.
According to official records, Boulton is charged with three counts of abuse of official capacity, classified as Class A misdemeanors, and one misdemeanor count for failing to report a felony. He is also facing five second-degree felony charges related to tampering with governmental records. In total, the indictments encompass seven criminal cases.
Texas Rangers executed an arrest warrant after the indictments were issued on Wednesday. Jail records show that Boulton’s bond has been set at $110,000.
Investigators allege that the conduct underlying the charges began in October 2024 and continued into 2025. Reporting by KWTX indicates that the allegations involve possession or facilitation of the delivery of a dangerous drug, unlicensed practice of medicine, falsification of official timesheets, abuse of official authority, and failure to report a crime. The charges also include allegations that Boulton made false statements to law enforcement regarding his knowledge of deputies or other officials using a specific type of drug.
Boulton was elected sheriff in 2024 after winning the March Republican primary election against Isaac Partain and Billy Hollingsworth.
In addition to the criminal proceedings, Boulton is the subject of a pending civil lawsuit seeking his removal from office. The petition was filed in district court in October by Chad Renfro and alleges abuse of official capacity. The filing claims Boulton engaged in an affair with Erika Bedell, who has since been arrested on charges related to the unlawful manufacturing of prescription drugs. The petition further alleges that Boulton and unnamed deputies used drugs obtained from Bedell, allowing the alleged criminal activity to continue.
That removal case is currently before District Judge Dip Waldrip and remains unresolved. At this time, it is unclear whether the criminal indictments are directly tied to the allegations raised in the civil petition.
