The Canyon City Commission and the Randall County Commissioners Court are scheduled to hold separate public meetings on Tuesday, addressing a range of municipal and county matters including development requests, infrastructure agreements, budget items, and public acknowledgments.
The Canyon City Commission will meet at 4:30 p.m. at Canyon City Hall, located at 301 16th Street. One of the primary agenda items is a public hearing regarding a specific use permit request to operate an accessory building sales and display business at 112 U.S. Highway 60. Following the hearing, commissioners will consider whether to approve or deny the permit based on applicable zoning and city regulations.
Commissioners will also review an amendment to an existing agreement related to the construction of a new lift station and the extension of water and wastewater off-site and on-site mains intended to serve an existing subdivision. The agreement involves Canyon Capital Group and addresses infrastructure improvements necessary to support continued development and service reliability.
Another agenda item involves consideration of a participation agreement between the City of Canyon, property owners Chris and Don Carl Tardy Jr., and tenant 7-Crew Enterprises. The agreement pertains to the relocation of water infrastructure associated with the vacation of an alley right-of-way located at 208 23rd Street. The action is intended to clarify responsibilities and costs related to the infrastructure changes.
The commission will also consider a resolution, in coordination with Randall County, to accept a House Bill 2604 grant from the Texas A&M Forest Service. The grant would be used for the purchase of rescue equipment for the Canyon Fire Department. The resolution also authorizes the fire chief to represent the city in matters related to the administration of the grant.
In addition to action items, the commission is scheduled to hold discussions regarding the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum and utility rates associated with West Texas Gas Utility, LLC. The meeting will include a designated time for public comments, allowing residents to address the commission on issues of concern.
Earlier in the day, the Randall County Commissioners Court will convene at 9 a.m. in the courtroom at 501 16th Street in Canyon. The meeting will begin with a presentation by the Randall County 4-H Youth Ambassadors, who are expected to recognize the commissioners with a special expression of appreciation.
The court will then consider several action items, including the awarding of a bid for the Youth Center Concrete Project. Commissioners will also review and potentially approve a renewal agreement with Microsoft Enterprise, along with various budget amendments. Additional agenda items include requests from county employees to attend meetings and conferences, approval of vouchers, and acceptance of official reports.
As with the city meeting, time will be allotted for public comments. Following the open session, commissioners may enter a closed session to discuss matters related to business for upcoming meetings, as permitted by law.
