Famed Hollywood actor and director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, were found dead Sunday afternoon in their Brentwood home in what Los Angeles authorities are treating as a double homicide, law enforcement and family sources confirmed.
Two victims matching the ages of the couple — 78 and 68 — were discovered inside the residence with wounds consistent with a stabbing, according to police and fire department officials. The Los Angeles Fire Department was called to the home in the 250 block of Chadbourne Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery-Homicide Division responded to the scene and has launched a full investigation.
Reiner’s son Nick has been arrested on suspicion of murdering his parents after the Hollywood director and his wife, Michelle, were found dead in their Los Angeles home on Sunday. The Los Angeles Times reported that Nick Reiner, 32, was booked into jail Sunday night, just hours after Reiner and his wife were found.
Jail records say he is being held on a $4 million bail.
A family spokesman confirmed the deaths of Reiner and Singer and issued a brief statement Sunday evening: “It is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner. We are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”
According to multiple reports, their daughter discovered the couple inside the home. Sources cited by People magazine say a family member is being questioned in connection with the case, but police have not confirmed those details publicly.
