The Amarillo City Council is scheduled to convene for its regular meeting at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Council Chamber at City Hall, where members will review a wide range of municipal projects, public board appointments and potential equipment upgrades across several city departments. Residents wishing to speak during public comment may sign up online, by calling the City Secretary’s office at 806-378-3014, or by registering in person at least 15 minutes before the meeting begins.
A primary item on the discussion agenda is an update on the ongoing wastewater treatment plant project. City staff are expected to brief council members on the project’s progress, timelines and any operational adjustments needed to support Amarillo’s expanding water and wastewater infrastructure. The update is part of ongoing efforts to keep the public informed on long-term utility improvements.
Council members will also receive a presentation on the potential purchase of multiple new fire trucks. According to the agenda, the Amarillo Fire Department is evaluating the need for additional vehicles to support emergency response capabilities. The presentation is expected to outline the cost, specifications and projected service life of the equipment, along with the department’s plans for integrating the new trucks into its existing fleet.
In addition, staff will provide a recap of the “Pirates of the Park” event held in October, reviewing community engagement, attendance and any budgetary impacts related to the city-sponsored activity.
A number of items appear on the consent agenda, typically indicating recommendations for routine approval. These include consideration of several grants designated for library improvements and airport maintenance. Council members will also review appointments to multiple Public Improvement District (PID) advisory boards and other city commissions. The approval of these appointments ensures ongoing representation and oversight in areas such as neighborhood development, economic growth and community programming.
Also on the consent list is a proposed utility easement to support electric service to the new Aerospace Coatings hangar at Rick Husband Amarillo International Airport. The council will consider several contracts for city services, subscriptions and site improvement projects, including planned enhancements at Amarillo Animal Management & Welfare. A proposal to replace several aging water boilers at the Amarillo Civic Center is also up for consideration as part of the facility’s ongoing maintenance needs.
Another notable item involves potential funding for a six-month pilot program through the Panhandle Regional Planning Commission. The initiative aims to expand transportation services for older adults, individuals with disabilities and other clients referred through local agencies. If approved, the pilot program would provide additional mobility options for residents who may have limited access to reliable transportation.
Several non-consent items will require separate discussion and votes. These include selecting board members for the Potter and Randall County Appraisal Districts, along with appointing new members to various public advisory boards, such as the Public Health Advisory Board and the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation. The council will also deliberate on the proposed purchase of three new fire trucks, separate from the broader fleet discussion.
