Off-duty Amarillo police officer arrested for DWI after two-vehicle wreck

An off-duty Amarillo Police Department officer was arrested Saturday night on suspicion of driving while intoxicated following a two-vehicle crash in southwest Amarillo, authorities confirmed.

According to a statement from the Amarillo Police Department (APD), officers were called to the 2200 block of Wolflin Avenue at around 8:10 p.m. on October 18 for reports of a minor collision. The caller told dispatchers that her white Ford had been struck by a red truck.

When officers arrived, they found the driver of the Ford suffering from non-life-threatening injuries. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

During the investigation, police identified the driver of the red truck as Tre Galvan, 33, an off-duty Amarillo Police officer. APD said Galvan showed signs of possible intoxication and was transported to an area hospital for a blood draw. He was later booked into the Potter County Jail on a Class B misdemeanor DWI – first offense charge.

In a statement released Sunday, APD confirmed that Officer Galvan will be placed on administrative leave while both internal and criminal investigations are conducted.

“As with any criminal investigation involving one of our officers, this incident will be reviewed thoroughly and transparently,” an APD spokesperson said.

According to the department’s official website, Galvan is currently listed as a member of the APD Recruiting Team and has served with the department for two years.

No additional details regarding his current employment status or potential disciplinary actions have been released.

The Amarillo Police Department stated that further information will be provided once the investigations are complete.
