The Amarillo High Lady Sandies continued their reign of dominance Friday night, capturing their sixth straight outright District 3-5A championship in convincing fashion. Amarillo rolled through Lubbock Monterey in straight sets—25-11, 25-7, 25-13—to keep their dynasty alive and well inside the district ranks.
With the win, the Lady Sandies improved to a stunning 15-0 in district play and 29-8 overall, extending their incredible district winning streak to 66 matches dating back to the 2020 season. The consistency, focus, and competitive fire that have become hallmarks of the program were on full display as Amarillo methodically dismantled Monterey from the first serve to the final point.
Senior standout Harper Vaughn once again set the tone at the net, powering down a team-high 13 kills to lead the Amarillo attack. Setter Bennett Rea continued to showcase her exceptional court vision, distributing 15 assists while also contributing seven digs defensively. From start to finish, Amarillo executed cleanly and with purpose—proof of why they’ve been the district’s gold standard for half a decade.
Head coach Jan Barker’s squad now looks poised to make another deep playoff push, with their chemistry and confidence peaking at just the right time. The Lady Sandies’ depth and experience have been critical assets, allowing them to weather any challenge and dominate in nearly every statistical category across their district slate.
Meanwhile, the Tascosa Lady Rebels continued to solidify their grip on second place with a commanding 25-17, 25-13, 25-13 sweep of Lubbock-Cooper on Friday. The win improved Tascosa to 25-10 overall and 12-2 in district play, keeping them within striking distance of another strong postseason berth.
Setter Ellen Daniel ran the offense with precision, racking up 19 assists, while defensive specialist Bennet Berryman anchored the back row with an impressive 16 digs. On the opposite side of the net, Lubbock-Cooper’s Hallie McCallick tallied six kills and three digs, but it wasn’t enough to slow down Tascosa’s balanced attack. The loss dropped Cooper to 22-11 and into a third-place tie with Lubbock Coronado, both sitting at 10-4 in the district standings.
Coronado kept its playoff hopes alive with a thrilling five-set victory over Caprock, surviving a serious upset scare in the process. The Lady Mustangs prevailed 25-21, 19-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-9, showcasing grit and resilience down the stretch. Addison Brown was spectacular defensively, racking up 27 digs, while Hailee Parrott Curtis notched a double-double with 14 kills and 16 digs to help her team secure the win.
In the final district matchup of the night, Palo Duro battled past Lubbock High in a five-set thriller of its own, taking the match 25-21, 23-25, 25-18, 16-25, 15-13.
As the regular season nears its conclusion, the district standings are starting to solidify—but one thing remains constant: Amarillo High continues to set the standard. With six straight titles and another perfect district campaign in the books, the Lady Sandies look every bit like a team ready to make more postseason noise in 2025.
