Cameron Dickey exploded for 263 rushing yards and two long touchdowns, powering No. 9 Texas Tech to a 42–17 victory over Kansas on Saturday night at Jones AT&T Stadium.
Dickey set the tone on the Red Raiders’ first offensive play with a 71-yard touchdown sprint, and later added a 55-yard touchdown run early in the fourth quarter that helped seal the outcome.
Texas Tech (6–0, 3–0 Big 12) piled up 372 rushing yards and recovered from a lull after starter Behren Morton left the game with a lower right leg injury in the second quarter. Morton did not return.
Despite a 21–0 Texas Tech lead, Kansas answered with scores on three of its first four possessions and cut the margin to four by halftime. Will Hammond — who replaced Morton — struggled early, throwing an interception and seeing three of his first four drives end without points before halftime. He settled in after the break, running 20 yards for a touchdown on the first drive of the second half and later finishing the scoring with a 10-yard touchdown run. Hammond finished with 61 rushing yards.
Dickey’s second long touchdown put Texas Tech ahead 35–17, and Hammond’s late touchdown closed out the scoring. It was the third time this season Hammond has come in after Morton did not return; Morton had missed time earlier in the season with a hyperextended knee and a separate head injury.
