Kevin Sparks announces reelection campaign for Texas Senate

Senator Kevin Sparks has formally launched his campaign for reelection to the Texas Senate, pledging to continue championing the priorities of West Texas, the Panhandle, the Permian Basin, and communities across the state. Representing Senate District 31, Sparks framed his candidacy as a commitment to conservative leadership and principled governance.

“As we begin our run for reelection, my vision is clear— to empower a Texas that thrives through principled leadership, conservative values, and a relentless focus on the issues that matter to West Texas, the Panhandle, the Permian Basin, and the entire state,” Sparks said in his announcement.

The Midland Republican enters the race with momentum, including the endorsement of former President Donald Trump. Sparks highlighted the significance of the support, noting, “I am honored to have received the support of President Trump once again, whose leadership has set a powerful example for restoring America’s greatness.”

Since taking office, Sparks has built a record of legislative activity that reflects the priorities of his largely rural district. He has focused on issues ranging from energy security to healthcare access and family well-being. Among his notable efforts are measures to combat oilfield theft, respond to the shortage of rural physicians, and advance child welfare reform aimed at strengthening protections for future generations.

Agriculture, a cornerstone of the West Texas economy, has also been a focus. Sparks worked on initiatives that secured significant new investments to preserve Texas farmland and improve wildfire preparedness— two pressing concerns for rural communities that face both economic and environmental challenges. Reflecting on the most recent session, Sparks described the results as a win for rural Texans.

“I can say with confidence this session was remarkably successful for rural Texas,” Sparks said. “Together, we fought to defend West Texas with meaningful legislation and budget investments.”

Sparks’ record in Austin has earned recognition from several policy organizations that track lawmakers’ voting behavior. According to the Rice University Liberal-Conservative Index, Sparks ranks as the third most conservative member of the Texas Senate. He also received the sixth highest score from Texans for Fiscal Responsibility and was awarded an A+ rating from Texans for Vaccine Choice, a group focused on medical freedom policies.

These ratings underscore Sparks’ alignment with the conservative base, but he frames his public service in more personal terms. Faith, he said, has guided his approach to governance and decision-making.

“Serving you in the Texas Senate is the privilege of a lifetime,” Sparks said. “Guided by my faith in Jesus Christ, every bill I carry and every vote I cast is rooted in one truth: I work for you.”

With his campaign underway, Sparks is encouraging supporters to get involved. His reelection website provides opportunities to volunteer, contribute financially, and stay informed about events in the months ahead.

As the 2024 election season takes shape, Sparks will continue to make his case to voters in Senate District 31— a region spanning much of the oil-rich Permian Basin and the wide plains of the Texas Panhandle. For Sparks, the reelection bid is framed not just as a continuation of his first term, but as a reaffirmation of conservative values and a pledge to keep rural Texas at the forefront of the state’s legislative agenda.
