A set of aging grain elevators between Canyon and Happy are seeing a dramatic revival, thanks to a pair of local visionaries who are turning the Silos at Happy into something the Texas Panhandle has never quite seen before.
Located in Randall County, the Silos at Happy — once a relic of the region’s agricultural past — are now the focus of a $500,000 transformation into a bustling, multi-purpose event space. What began as an idea for a rustic wedding venue has evolved into something much bigger: a rural community hub designed to host everything from live music to car shows to family gatherings.
“We had envisioned having this space as a wedding venue, and then our vision changed from the original idea,” said Robin Minielly, co-owner of the Silos. “Now it’s more of a community center where we can do various events.”
Robin and her partner, Kayleigh McCarrell, both first-time developers, say they were inspired by the potential of the historic site. With its towering grain elevators and wide-open landscape, the Silos offer a unique aesthetic they believe will attract visitors not just from Happy, but from all across the Panhandle.
“Whoever would have thought we’d be doing concerts and events out of an old grain elevator?” said McCarrell. “But I think once people see what we’ve created, we’ll have this place packed every single weekend.”
Their confidence was put to the test during a soft opening last week, followed by their first concert event over the weekend. The turnout was promising, and the energy has sparked even more momentum. This coming weekend, the Silos will host a car show along with multiple concerts — a sign that word is already spreading.
The women say part of the appeal is the venue’s location. It's far enough from the city lights to feel like an escape, but close enough to Amarillo and Canyon to make for a quick drive.
“I think over time people will find it to be a very unique venue,” Minielly added. “People like to get out and experience a more rural area, and this venue gives you that — along with character from all the old structures.”
Looking ahead, there’s no shortage of ambition. The owners are planning to add a spa to the property and renovate a nearby house to serve as a space for bridal showers, weddings, and family reunions. The idea is to create a one-stop destination for celebrations and community events of all sizes.
While neither Minielly nor McCarrell has done anything like this before, their grassroots approach, commitment to revitalization, and passion for community are fueling the project’s early success.
With its unique setting and growing list of events, the Silos at Happy could soon become one of the Panhandle’s most distinctive and beloved gathering places.
