Late Sunday night, Amarillo police officers were checking a local store after an alarm call. A citizen flagged down the officers and asked them to check a residence near 6300 Leigh because of a family dispute.
As officers arrived, the suspect was leaving the scene in a vehicle. The suspect attempted to run from officers and crashed into a home in the 2700 block of Reis.
A small child in the home was taken to the hospital with minor injuries.
As officers were exiting their vehicles, the suspect shot at police. Officers returned fire and struck the suspect.
The suspect was taken by ambulance to an area hospital where he died from his injuries. He was identified as Jesus Rodriguez,
