Potter County Jail Population Drops to 602 Inmates
The Potter County Sheriff’s Office reported a decrease in the number of inmates in county custody in its latest weekly population report. As of 8 a.m. Sept. 8, PCSO had 602 inmates in its custody, including 550 housed at the Potter County Detention Center and 52 held at other facilities. The sheriff’s office noted that jail population numbers can fluctuate because of bookings, releases, transfers, court proceedings and other factors. The weekly reports are intended to provide the public with a snapshot of the detention center population.
Childress Issues Boil Water Notice
The City of Childress issued a boil water notice Tuesday after low disinfectant residuals were detected in the water system. City officials attributed the problem to extreme heat and high ground temperatures causing disinfectants to evaporate. Residents were advised to boil water before consumption or using it to wash their hands or face and brush their teeth. Water should be brought to a vigorous boil for two minutes before use. The city said it will provide an update when boiling water is no longer necessary.
Possible Human Remains Found in Armstrong County
The Armstrong County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Rangers are investigating the discovery of possible human remains in Armstrong County. Sheriff Melissa Anderson said the remains were found Sept. 8 during a search in a canyon area of the county. The remains had not been positively identified as of the sheriff’s announcement. They will be submitted for forensic examination to help determine an identity and the cause and manner of death. The investigation remains ongoing, with the Texas Rangers and Randall County Sheriff’s Office assisting.
