A man has died after being shot late Friday night at a Pampa home after police say he forced his way inside.
Pampa police officers were called to a residence in the 1300 block of North Duncan Street at approximately 11:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, following a report of a shooting.
When officers arrived, they found several people inside the home, including a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers and other emergency personnel began treating him at the scene before he was transported by ambulance to Pampa Regional Medical Center.
The man was later transferred to an Amarillo hospital in critical condition. He eventually died from his injuries.
According to the Pampa Police Department’s preliminary investigation, the man knew the residents of the home but had arrived without being invited. Police say he then forced his way into the residence.
Investigators believe one of the people inside the home feared for the occupants’ safety, obtained a handgun and fired at the man.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under investigation, and police have not announced whether anyone could face charges.
The Pampa Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division responded to the scene and is handling the investigation. Once investigators complete their work, the findings will be forwarded to the 31st/223rd District Attorney’s Office, which will review the case and determine whether criminal charges are warranted.
Police have not released the identity of the man who died. His name is being withheld until his next of kin can be notified.
