A Randall County grand jury has indicted a 17-year-old on four child sex crime charges stemming from an incident that allegedly occurred on a Canyon Independent School District bus in February.
Ayden Sanning was indicted on two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact and two counts of indecency with a child by exposure.
Sanning was arrested March 19 on six charges, including three counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact and three counts of indecency with a child by exposure. The grand jury returned indictments on four of those charges.
The allegations stem from a Feb. 27 incident aboard a CISD bus carrying the Randall High School junior varsity baseball team home from a tournament in Lubbock, according to a criminal complaint.
The Randall County Sheriff’s Office opened an investigation after receiving reports March 3 about possible criminal activity that occurred on the bus.
Investigators said they reviewed footage from the bus surveillance system and found that the alleged acts had been captured on video.
The investigation also turned to videos recorded on students’ cellphones. Investigators obtained search warrants for the phones and recovered additional video as evidence in the case, according to the complaint.
Sanning was arrested about two weeks after the sheriff’s office received the initial reports.
