The opening week of district volleyball action brought dominant sweeps, standout individual performances and another chapter in one of the area’s longest winning streaks. Tascosa and Amarillo High opened District 3-5A play in impressive fashion, while Bushland, Highland Park, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty and River Road also earned victories.

Lady Rebels sweep Caprock in crosstown showdown

Tascosa made its short road trip across town well worth it Tuesday night.

The Lady Rebels opened District 3-5A play by sweeping Caprock 25-16, 25-10, 25-12 at the Caprock Activity Center.

Coming off the first tournament weekend of the season, Tascosa improved to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in district play. Caprock fell to 3-6 overall and 0-1 in district.

Tascosa used a balanced effort to take care of the Lady Longhorns. Blaire Whatley and Chandler Graham led the attack with seven kills apiece, while Ellen Daniel directed the offense with 21 assists. Graham also delivered three aces from the service line.

Defensively, Graham and Kori Nickerson combined for 22 digs. Graham led the Lady Rebels with 12 digs, while Nickerson added 10.

Amarillo High extends district winning streak to 68

Amarillo High picked up right where it left off last season.

The Lady Sandies cruised past Palo Duro in straight sets, 25-10, 25-9, 25-15, to open District 3-5A play Tuesday night.

AHS improved to 7-3 overall and 1-0 in district while extending its impressive district winning streak to 68 consecutive matches dating back to 2020.

Harper Vaughan paced the Lady Sandies with eight kills and added three aces. Sophia Ramirez was stellar from the service line with 10 aces, while Anzley Davis anchored the defense with a match-high 14 digs.

Billington's double-double powers Bushland

The Bushland Lady Falcons continue to soar.

Coming off a strong showing at the Pearland Tournament, Bushland rolled past Pampa in straight sets, 25-17, 25-18, 25-13.

Junior standout Berklee Billington was a step above the rest for Bushland (7-3), hammering down 12 kills and collecting 10 digs for a double-double.

Laynee Adams chipped in nine kills, while Morgan Eberly and Jaida Scott combined for 35 assists. Eberly led the Lady Falcons with 20 assists and Scott handed out 15.

Highland Park handles Amarillo Accelerate

Highland Park continued its strong start to the season with a straight-set non-district victory over Amarillo Accelerate.

The Lady Hornets earned the 25-16, 25-21, 25-15 win to improve to 7-2 overall.

Kaitlyn Lucas made an impact in multiple areas, delivering four aces from the service line while also distributing 15 assists.

Liberty sweeps West Plains

Lubbock-Cooper Liberty took care of West Plains in straight sets, earning a 25-6, 25-21, 25-11 victory.

The win pushed the Lady Patriots' record to 7-4 overall.

Ellis Roberts provided plenty of firepower at the net, leading Liberty with 13 kills. Teammate Lexie Allgood wasn't far behind, finishing with 11 kills.

River Road survives five-set thriller against Miami

River Road needed all five sets to put away a determined Miami squad.

After the teams traded momentum throughout the match, River Road came through when it mattered most to secure a 25-16, 20-25, 25-20, 23-25, 17-15 victory.

The deciding fifth set went beyond the traditional 15-point mark before River Road finally closed out the back-and-forth thriller, 17-15.
