City leaders say the move replaces the seasonal schedule with consistent hours year-round, making it easier for customers to plan visits. DPS Investigation Leads to Drug Charges Against Amarillo Man
An Amarillo man is facing felony drug charges after a Texas Department of Public Safety investigation led officers to a home where investigators say they found marijuana, psychedelic mushrooms and THC products. According to court records, the investigation began after a confidential informant reported buying mushrooms from Marcos Flores, leading agents to conduct surveillance and multiple controlled purchases. A search of the residence on July 12 allegedly uncovered nearly five pounds of marijuana, 74 grams of mushrooms, THC products, 26 marijuana plants, growing equipment and more than $3,200 in cash. Flores was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on felony possession charges before being released on a $12,500 bond.
SWAT Response Ends With Arrest in Southwest Amarillo
A heavy law enforcement presence shut down portions of southwest Amarillo for several hours Monday as officers searched for an armed suspect. Multiple SWAT teams responded to the area near Southwest 9th Avenue and Coulter Street, clearing nearby parking lots, including those at Vibra Rehabilitation Hospital of Amarillo and Panhandle Surgical Hospital. The operation ended about three hours later with the arrest of 26-year-old Anthony Ramirez, who was wanted on an intimidation charge. Traffic in the area was restricted while officers worked the scene.
Canyon Commission to Weigh Alcohol Ban in Parks
The Canyon City Commission will meet Tuesday at 4 p.m. to consider a proposal that would prohibit the possession or consumption of alcoholic beverages in city parks and city-owned buildings. Commissioners are also expected to discuss the proposed 2026 property tax rate, set a public hearing on the tax proposal and consider the West Texas Crossing Development Agreement.
