The Canyon City Commission is set to meet Tuesday afternoon to consider a proposed property tax rate for the upcoming fiscal year, along with a negotiated settlement involving Atmos Energy and cities across its West Texas service area.
Commissioners are scheduled to meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Commission Chambers at Canyon City Hall. The meeting will include an opportunity for public comments, according to the posted agenda.
Among the most notable items is a public hearing on the city's proposed ad valorem tax rate for fiscal year 2026-2027. The proposed rate is $0.53413 per $100 of taxable value.
Documents published with the agenda show the proposed rate represents a 4% increase from the city's fiscal year 2025-2026 tax rate of $0.51181 per $100.
Commissioners are also expected to consider a resolution approving a negotiated settlement between Atmos Energy and the Executive Committee of Cities Served by Atmos West Texas. The settlement comes in response to Atmos Energy's 2026 Rate Review Mechanism filing.
Other business scheduled for consideration includes a recommendation from the Board of City Development concerning its 2025-2026 budget and a contract through Azavar and/or Localgov for short-term rental tax compliance services.
The commission will also consider an election for the Texas Health Benefits Pool Board of Trustees and approval of minutes from previous meetings held Aug. 4 and Aug. 10.
