The Randall Raiders are turning to an experienced leader as they begin a new chapter for their boys basketball program.
Canyon ISD has named Clint Schnell as the new head boys basketball coach at Randall High School, bringing more than two decades of successful coaching experience to one of the Texas Panhandle's premier basketball programs.
Schnell arrives in Canyon after serving as a varsity assistant coach at Amarillo High School during the past season. While his most recent stop came in Amarillo, his coaching résumé spans more than 21 years as a high school coach and over 26 years in education.
Throughout his career, Schnell has guided successful programs at both Coppell High School and Arlington Martin High School as a head coach. Along the way, he established a reputation for building competitive teams while earning the respect of peers across Texas.
His success on the court has been recognized repeatedly. Schnell has been named District Coach of the Year four times during his career, reflecting sustained excellence and consistency in leading successful basketball programs. He was also recognized by the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches as a Region I finalist for the Don Coleman Outstanding Coach of the Year honor.
Schnell also brings valuable leadership experience beyond basketball. He earned a Master of Education Administration from Lamar University and completed a principal internship at Coppell High School. During that time, he also served multiple stints as acting assistant principal, giving him firsthand administrative experience that complements his coaching background.
That combination of coaching success and educational leadership made Schnell an attractive candidate for Canyon ISD as the district looked to continue Randall's tradition of excellence.
Athletic Director John Peterson said Schnell's vision aligns with the values that have helped make Randall basketball one of the area's most respected programs. Peterson emphasized that Schnell intends to build a championship culture centered on hard work, integrity, selflessness and excellence while also focusing on developing student-athletes who succeed academically and become successful beyond the basketball court.
The expectations at Randall are significant. The Raiders have established themselves as one of the Panhandle's consistently competitive basketball programs, making the head coaching position one of the region's most desirable opportunities.
With decades of experience leading successful programs, multiple coaching honors and a strong background in educational leadership, Schnell appears well-equipped to embrace those expectations.
As preparations begin for the upcoming season, Raider fans will be watching to see how Schnell blends his experience with the program's established tradition. His track record suggests a coach who values discipline, player development and long-term success, both on and off the hardwood.
