A Secret Service agent assigned to Vice President JD Vance's security detail has been placed on administrative leave while the agency investigates an alleged leak involving the vice president's travel plans.
According to CNN, investigators believe the agent may have been the source for a recent MS NOW story that described frustration within Vance's protective detail.
The report didn't just discuss morale. It also included details about Vance's upcoming travel, including a planned Marine Corps helicopter trip with his son that was later canceled.
Those details quickly raised alarms inside the Secret Service, the FBI and the White House because they involved operational security surrounding the vice president's movements.
The Secret Service's internal affairs division is leading the investigation. It's not yet known whether the agent could face disciplinary action, criminal charges or both.
Part of a Larger Crackdown
The investigation comes as the Trump administration continues its push to crack down on leaks involving sensitive government information.
Earlier this month, the FBI subpoenaed four New York Times reporters after they wrote about security concerns involving the new Air Force One jet.
Those reporters have since been ordered to appear before a federal grand jury.
