From city infrastructure and local government meetings to summer activities for families, several important events are on the calendar across the Texas Panhandle. Here's a quick look at what's happening.
Hollywood Road, River Road Wastewater Project Moves Into Next Phase
Planning for Amarillo's Hollywood Road and River Road wastewater treatment facilities is moving forward as the city prepares to begin Phase Two of the long-term project. Phase One included master planning, engineering, permitting analysis and facility assessments. Phase Two will focus on pre-design, conceptual design and selecting a construction manager. Mayor Cole Stanley said the project remains on schedule for completion in 2031, while Council Member Les Simpson said construction is expected to begin around 2028. The Phase Two engineering services agreement is scheduled for Amarillo City Council approval on July 28.
Pampa City Council to Hold Budget Discussions Monday
The Pampa City Council will meet Monday at 4 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at 200 W. Foster. Council members will hold a public hearing on a substandard structure at 736 N. Christy and continue budget discussions for the General Fund and other government funds. The agenda also includes approval of June disbursements, consideration of a crosswalk ordinance for Pampa Regional Medical Center, and the reappointment of Mac Smith to the Canadian River Municipal Water Authority for a two-year term beginning Aug. 1. A public comment period is also scheduled.
Hereford Commission to Review Audits, Insurance Options
The Hereford City Commission will meet Monday at 6:30 p.m. in the Commission Chambers at 224 N. Lee. Commissioners will consider a façade improvement grant for Litho Graphics at 621 Main St. and hear a capital expenditures presentation from Specialized Public Finance. The commission will also review and consider accepting the city's 2023-24 and 2024-25 audit reports, along with a recommendation for the city's health insurance carrier. Public comments and reports from city officials will conclude the meeting.
Discovery Center Announces Summer Fun Days Camps
The Don Harrington Discovery Center will launch its Summer Fun Days camps on Monday, Aug. 3, with weekday sessions continuing through Aug. 17 for children ages 4 to 10. Campers will participate in museum activities, Space Theater movies and outdoor adventures at local parks and the Medi Park Splash Pad, weather permitting. Half-day and full-day options are available, with four-year-olds eligible for half-day sessions only. Registration costs range from $27 to $55 for members and $30 to $55 for nonmembers, with optional pre-care and after-care available for $10 each.
