There's plenty happening across the Panhandle this week, from EMT training opportunities and a fundraiser for Special Olympics to water restrictions in Guymon and an upcoming tax sale in Randall County.
Amarillo College Opens Enrollment for EMT Classes
Amarillo College is accepting students for its Fall 2026 Basic Emergency Medical Technician program, with classes beginning Aug. 24 at the First Responders Academy.
The program offers morning, afternoon and evening classes to fit different schedules. Students receive classroom instruction along with clinical training and field internships that prepare them to work in emergency medical services.
After completing the program, students are eligible to take the National Registry of EMT certification exams.
Students also have access to Amarillo College resources such as tutoring, a success coach and financial aid for those who qualify. Because the program has open enrollment, no separate application is required.
Guymon Issues Stage 3 Water Restrictions
The City of Guymon has declared a water emergency after daily demand climbed to 95.4% of the city's available water production capacity.
Stage 3 water conservation measures are now in effect. Outdoor lawn watering is limited to one day a week, with odd-numbered addresses allowed to water Saturdays and even-numbered addresses Sundays. Watering is only permitted between 7 p.m. and 11 a.m.
The city has also banned filling water tanks, trailers and totes for transport outside city limits and is requiring residents to prevent irrigation runoff from leaving their property.
Officials said they will spend the next week educating residents before issuing citations.
"These temporary conservation measures are necessary to ensure the continued delivery of safe and reliable water service while preserving adequate capacity for emergency response and public safety," City Manager Michael Shannon said.
Tip A Cop Returns Thursday
Dinner at Texas Roadhouse on Thursday can also help support Special Olympics Texas.
The annual Tip A Cop fundraiser will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. at the restaurant, 2805 W. Interstate 40. Local law enforcement officers will trade their uniforms for aprons, helping wait tables and visiting with customers while collecting donations.
The money raised will help fund year-round sports training and competitions for children and adults with intellectual disabilities.
The event is part of the statewide Law Enforcement Torch Run campaign benefiting Special Olympics Texas.
Randall County Tax Sale Scheduled
The Randall County Sheriff's Office will hold a tax sale at 4320 S. Western St. in Amarillo.
Officials said the sale includes properties currently scheduled for auction, although some may be removed if delinquent taxes are paid before the sale.
Anyone planning to bid is encouraged to research the property's title, location and condition beforehand. Properties are sold with a Sheriff's deed and without a warranty of title. They also remain subject to the right of redemption under Texas law.
