Firefighters Rescue Seven Puppies from Garage Fire
Amarillo firefighters responded to a house fire Saturday in the 300 block of North Forest Street, where flames had spread through an attached garage. Crews quickly knocked down the fire, searched the home and made sure it hadn't spread into the main part of the house. During the response, firefighters and Amarillo Medical Services paramedics rescued seven puppies suffering from smoke inhalation. All seven were treated at the scene and recovered. No people were hurt, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Teen Arrested After Girl Run Over at Party
An 18-year-old is facing charges after police say he ran over a teenage girl during an underage party early Saturday morning. Officers were called around 2 a.m. to the area of Amarillo Boulevard and North Grant, where witnesses said the girl was pinned beneath a vehicle for more than 20 minutes. Police say Cool Pennon admitted he was driving the vehicle and arrested him on a charge of intoxication assault with a vehicle causing serious bodily injury. The victim suffered a broken femur along with other minor injuries.
Adult Sports Leagues Coming to Amarillo Netplex
Looking for a little Friday night competition? Amarillo Netplex is launching its "Leagues After Dark" series beginning July 31. Adult players of all skill levels can sign up for basketball, volleyball or pickleball, with games scheduled every Friday at 6 p.m. through Aug. 28, ending with Championship Night. Hereford Police Still Seeking Answers in 2025 Death
More than a year after the death of Cedric Garcia, Hereford police are still searching for answers. Garcia, 53, was found dead on Jan. 2, 2025, near Mable and Whittier streets with an apparent gunshot wound. Investigators are asking anyone who may have information about the case to come forward.
